10. How do I send HTML newsletters in Outlook Express?
Newsletter's are a great way to inform your customers on what products and/or services you have to offer. HTML newsletters can be a bit tricky to set up in Microsoft Outlook, therefore the recommended program is Outlook Express as this way is quite simple:
A few things to note about sending HTML newsletters:
- All links (anchors, images etc) must be absolute e.g. http://www.axiomdesign.co.uk/test/image1.jpg
- All Stylesheets (if used) must be embedded within the HTML page
- All JavaScript (if used) must be embedded within the HTML page
Setting up a HTML Newsletter in Microsoft Outlook:
1. Prepare your HTML newsletter using a program such as Notepad, Macromedia Dreamweaver etc.
Recommendation: Do not use Microsoft Word to do this.
2. Open Outlook Express
3. Select Create Mail

4. Fill in the following details:
- To - who the newsletter is going to (every user in here will be able to see each others e-mail addresses)
- BCC - Entering contacts in the BCC Field will stop users from being able to see the other e-mail addresses. Please note: If you leave the 'To' field blank then the e-mail received by each user will say 'To: Undisclosed Recipient:;'. This may cause the e-mail to be considered as SPAM.
- Subject - the subject of your newsletter
5. Click on 'Source' and copy and paste in your HTML code.
To do this via shorcuts on the keyboard:
Press 'Ctrl+A' to select
all your code from where you created it e.g. notepad, then 'Ctrl+C' to copy
it, then move into outlook express, press 'Ctrl+A' to select all the current
code in Outlook Express, then press 'Ctrl+V' to paste in all your code.
Please Note:
HTML tables should not have a width greater than 550px, otherwise they
will not appear correctly to all users.
Or alternatively set the width to 100% to allow for any screen resolution.
6. Click on 'Edit' to return to the design view.
Then click on 'Send' to send your newsletter:
